Message From CAPS Edmonton President 2008 Scott Nelson:
Knowing, Feeling and Doing During Camp NSA in late November last year at the National Speakers Association’s headquarters in Tempe, all the incoming CAPS and NSA chapter presidents were asked a question: “At the end of your year as chapter president, what do you want your members to KNOW, FEEL, and DO?” Each of us wrote our responses on an index card. We placed it in an envelope and wrote our addresses on the outside (This is why the handwriting seemed familiar). A NSA staff member collected the envelopes. Now, a month later the envelope had come back to me, a reminder of our discussions in Tempe and hopes and plans for the next CAPS year. I would like to share with you what I wrote on my card. At the end of 2008, I want members of CAPS Edmonton to:
The most important part of my preparation for the upcoming year as CAPS Edmonton president have been the opportunities to meet one-on-one with many members of our chapter. As we begin a new year, I trust you will see how the input of CAPS Edmonton members have shaped our plans for 2008. We believe that this plan will show that we KNOW what members need and want and that we FEEL confident that we are prepared to DO what needs to be done to fulfill these expectations. Something to Think About What is important for you to be successful as a speaker, trainer, or facilitator? Do you have ideas, resources, or techniques that you are willing to share with other CAPS members to help them grow professionally? Would you like to develop certain skills or techniques to further your professional growth? What resources you are looking for? This year you will have an opportunity to hone your skills, grow your speaking business and network with seasoned as well as aspiring speaking professionals. Each montly professional development session offers you an opportunity to be with like minded people, discover new trends in the speaking industry, explore different techniques and most of all have a lot of fun. Welcome to CAPS Edmonton 2008! It promises to be an exciting year full of growth for professional speaking . I look forward to meeting you at our next professional development session. If you are new to CAPS Edmonton and require more information about how we can benefit you please call me at (780) 433-1443 or email at: nmscott@telus.net. Sincerely Speaking, Nelson Scott
